The Gypsy Horse Show Association (GHSA) Futurity Program offers an exciting opportunity for breeders, owners, and exhibitors to showcase the finest Gypsy Horses while promoting the breed’s growth and excellence. This program provides a structured platform for young horses to develop their skills, compete for prestigious titles, and earn valuable prize money. By participating in the futurity, breeders gain recognition for their breeding programs, owners enhance their horses’ marketability, and exhibitors benefit from a competitive yet supportive environment to display their training efforts. With a focus on rewarding quality, conformation, and performance, the GHSA Futurity Program is a cornerstone for advancing the future of the Gypsy Horse breed.

 

Benefits of Supporting the GHSA Stallion Service Auction (SSA) and Futurity Program

Supporting the GHSA Stallion Service Auction (SSA) comes with valuable benefits while contributing to the growth and excellence of the Gypsy Horse breed.

 

For Bidders:

  • Discounts on stud fees for top-quality stallions while supporting the GHSA.

  • The highest bidder of the entire 2025 Stallion Service Auction will receive one free stall at the 2025 GHSA Congress Show.

  • Free value-added marketing of SSA participants, highlighting their stallions, foals, and breeding programs.

 

For Stallion Donors:

  • A dedicated promotional post about the donated stallion(s) on all GHSA social media platforms.

  • Featured listing on the auction site with photos, videos, and all relevant stallion details (provided by the donor).

  • Free nomination for donor stallion (with $300 minumum bid).

  • A free GHSA membership per donation.

  • Exclusive promotion package for donors contributing over $1000.

  • Free value-added marketing of SSA participants, highlighting their stallions, foals, and breeding programs.

program and help shape the future of the Gypsy breed!

 

Nominating Stallions

Stallions must be registered with GVHS, GHRA, TGCA, and/or Irish Cob registries to be eligible for nomination. The stallion must be a purebred with no crosses. Nominations are submitted annually, making all foals born during that year eligible for nomination to the GHSA Futurity Program.

  • Nomination Fee: $200 + $30 office fee

  • Late Nomination: If the stallion owner does not pay by December 31st, foals nominated by him that year will be ineligible until the sire’s nomination fee is paid.

  • Deceased Stallions: Can be nominated at the same fees.

  • Third-Party Nominations: If initiated by someone other than the stallion owner, GHSA will attempt to contact the stallion owner for approval. If denied, 50% of the nomination fee will be refunded.

Nominating Weanlings

Weanlings and their sires must be nominated and all fees paid by December 1st of their weanling year. Fillies and colts are eligible.

  • Nomination Fee: $100 + $30 office fee

  • Late Fee: Additional $100 if not paid by December 1st

  • Sire Nomination Fee: $200 + $30 office fee (if not previously nominated)

  • Auction Proceeds: 15% of proceeds from the Stallion auction, plus contributions to the Supreme Futurity Weanling fund, will be paid out in a halter class each year.

  • Eligibility Continuation: Weanlings remain eligible through their futurity years if ownership changes, provided that registry transfers and fees are maintained.

 

Nominating Yearlings, Two-Year-Olds, and Three-Year-Olds

To maintain eligibility, horses must be nominated yearly and all previous fees paid.

  • Annual Nomination Fee: $50 + $30 office fee (due April 1st)

  • Late Fee: Additional $50 if not paid by April 1st (must be paid before the show)

  • Missed Nominations: If a horse was not nominated as a weanling, it may be entered retroactively by paying the

  • Weanling nomination fee ($100) + late fees.

  • Three-Year-Old Nomination (if not previously nominated): $250 + $30 office fee

 

Nominating a Four-Year-Old Alumni

The Four-Year-Old Futurity Alumni is a separate division allowing horses to participate in CONGRESS Classes at the Annual Congress Gypsy Vanner Horse Show®.

  • Eligibility: Only horses completing all four years of the Futurity program can enter.

  • Annual Alumni Fee: $50 + $30 office fee (due December 1st, paid yearly through four-year-old year)

  • Late Fee: Additional $50 per year if not paid on time

  • Prize Payout: All funds accumulated in the Alumni Fund are distributed during the four-year-old year.

 

Four-Year-Old Futurity Class Options

Participants can select one of two class payout options:

Option 1

Halter

English Pleasure

Western Pleasure

 

Option 2

Halter

Western Dressage

Dressage

(Total payout based on combined point total)

 

Prize Money Distribution

Each weanling class initiates a new Futurity Prize Fund, which carries forward for four years:

  • Weanling Year: 15% of Stallion Auction & additional sponsorship funds paid out

  • Yearling Year: 35% payout, remainder rolls to Two-Year-Old Year

  • Two-Year-Old Year: 50% payout, remainder rolls to Three-Year-Old Year

  • Three-Year-Old Year: 100% payout

  • Four-Year-Old Year (Alumni): 100% payout

 

Class Paybacks

Class winnings will be distributed as follows:

Placement Percentage Payout

1st - 25%

2nd - 20%

3rd - 15%

4th - 10%

5th -10th - 5% each

 

  • Prize Money Distribution:

    • Yearling funds split evenly between three Yearling In-Hand classes.

    • Two-Year-Old funds split evenly between five classes.

    • Three-Year-Old funds split evenly between seven classes.

    • Alumni prize money is paid to horses placing 1st-10th in Grand National classes judged solely on the horse.

 

Stallion Auction Revenue

  • 85% of total GHSA Stallion Auction revenue (after expenses) will be awarded to first-place Futurity class winners whose sire was included in that year’s auction.

  • Distribution percentages available on GHSA website.

 

Late Fees

Late fees will be equal to the original nomination fee, with no additional office fee.

Program Governance

  • The GHSA Board of Directors manages the Futurity Program.

  • Any changes must be approved by the Board.
